Undergraduate Studies in Cognitive Science

Interfaculty Program for the Bachelor’s in Arts and Science (54 Credits)

The Interfaculty Program in Cognitive Science provides undergraduate B.A. & Sc. students who are interested in working in the broad area of study of mind a way to pursue a variety of specific interests while still ensuring that each student explores at least two disciplines. Please refer to the Course Calendar for details. NOTE: COMP 230 may now be considered as an alternative to PHIL 210. COMP 280 may be considered as a possible List B course for credit in Cognitive Science; for either of these possibilities, discuss with director Ian Gold [email].

Honours Program for the Bachelor’s of Arts and Science

An Honours program in Cognitive Science is available to students with a B+ (3.3) average or better, who wish to conduct interfaculty research in Cognitive Science. Simply take the current interfaculty program as described, but with a 6 credit honours research course, COGS 444, in addition. Consult the program director.

Arts Multi-Track Programs for the Bachelor's of Arts

Students following multi-track programs in the Faculty of Arts can design combinations of Major and Minor cognitive science concentrations. There are Major and Minor concentrations in Linguistics, Philosophy, and Psychology, and there is a Minor concentration in Computer Science. Combinations of Major-Major, Major-Minor, and Major-Minor-Minor using these programs could be considered. If courses from the Cognitive Science Minor are chosen for these concentrations along with the course in Cognitive Science (PSYC 532), the result could be a credible and effective cognitive science program. Such programs do not carry an official designation as "cognitive science" programs.

Minor in Cognitive Science (27 credits)

The Minor in Cognitive Science is intended to supplement and support Major or Honours programs in Computer Science, Linguistics, Philosophy, or Psychology. Students wishing to enroll in this Minor must register with the program director.  The minor is administered through the faculty of Science. Please refer to the Course Calendar for details.
